Kia Gear Up: Day 2 – Go Kart Fun at Castelloli Circuit

Kia Gear Up Go Kart

After sitting in the classroom for a Kia Gear Up Safety Seminar, the staff informed us that we will be having some warm-up driving fun at the Go-Kart Track that was located beside the Castelloli Circuit. I think the safety seminar was very useful as it allowed everyone to remember the importance of being safe on any race track when operating any vehicles. At the same time, visually, we got to familiarize each race track courses, so kudos to the Kia Motors Team for their preparation and putting safety first for everyone!

Then, we hopped on the coach bus. It was a short 7 minute ride to the Go Kart race track. Then, we took a short walk. It was a relaxing walk on a sunny morning with cool breeze. My favourite part of the walk was walking up and down the rolling hills and moving through a mini tunnel, you could hear the echo from our group of people.

Then, we had arrived at the Go Kart track. We were greeted by the staff and they informed us to grab a helmet for our safety on the race track. They also told us the proper way to choose the right helmet size for our head and how to properly tie it up. It’s important that our helmet were not loose or moving alot. Since I have a big head, I opted for a large size helmet. LOL

Then, the Kia Gear Up Global Ambassadors were asked to grab a Go Kart and sat in them. I chose my ride, which had a #8 on it. Since one of my favourite Raptors of all-time Jose Calderon is from Spain, I decided to choose #8 as my ride. Very thoughtful eh?

The staff told us to put safety first and get a feel of the track and be considerate of other people. But after a few laps, we could let loose and experience the speed on the track. The moment when the staff turned on the engine of my ride, off I went to the open track. I was super stoked because the last time I drove on a Go Kart was 10 years ago! Vroom! Vroom!

I could feel my adrenaline pumping through my veins as this Go Kart had a very powerful engine. Love the vibration the ride produced as I whipped through the track. The sound of the engine and the acceleration was exhilarating. Never underestimate the speed of these little Go Karts because it had no body frames and was in open air, it actually felt quicker than you were sitting in a car at higher speeds. It was definitely super fun driving around the track for at least an hour. I got to admit though, being a professional driver isn’t an easy task, it’s definitely a physical sports although many people debated and said it’s not. Let me tell you, your brain is processing at all times, analyzing at all times on the track in such high-speed, there isn’t much time to process, so your brain have to act quickly. Furthermore, you have to be physically ready to be able to drive in a long periods of time with high endurance. Professional racing is definitely a physical sports in my opinion.

After the Go Kart fun experience, I was soaking wet, it was hot out there and when you were wearing a helmet, sweat came out, but that’s ok, it was definitely a fun exercise before we get into real vehicles later in the day at the Castelloli Circuit. We hopped back to the coach bus and headed back to the training facility to grab some lunch before we go through our next exercise. Make sure you check out my next MoVernie BLOG as Kia Motors hired a personal chef and food truck to make delicious Spanish food on the spot for us at the track. Kia Motors surely took care of our tummy with amazing tasty food. Stay tuned!

Kia Gear Up: Day 2 – Breakfast & In-Class Training Session

Kia Gear Up Breakfast

After spending the first day touring around the city of Barcelona as well as meeting other Kia Global Ambassadors for the first time, it was time for all of us to be ready for this BIG day, the “Challenge Course on the Castelloli Circuit“. I was super stoked for this event because I really want to experience what it’s like to drive on a real race track with a race car. Vroom! Vroom!

Before we hopped on the tour bus, I decided to wake up earlier than expected so I could try the breakfast at the Grand Central Hotel (the hotel we all stayed for this Kia Gear Up campaign). The restaurant that served the breakfast buffet was located at the basement level. It was chic, modern and clean.  Andrew, the Kia Social Manager woke up early as well and accompanied me to have our breakfast.

The moment we sat down, a friendly staff came over and welcomed us. Right away, she poured coffee into our mug. She told us to feel free to go to the buffet section and self-serve the food we would like to eat. Lots of goodies at the stations. There were fresh croissants and other pastries. Cheese and a variety of cold cuts. My favourite sunny side up eggs, sausages, bacon and freash toasts. Fruits, cereal, a large list of fresh squeezed juices were all available for us. It was truly impressive!

Kia Gear Up Breakfast

After the quick breakfast, we went to the entrance and hopped onto the tour bus. As we got used to it by now that there were a large teams of camera crew filming us and snapping photos of us on the bus. After about an hour of bus ride, we had finally arrived at the Castelloli Circuit. This is a legit circuit that hosted many professional motorcycles and race cars events. The weather was nice with cool breeze and dry road conditions, perfect for the Kia Gear Up Challenge Course!

Kia Gear Up In-Class Training

As we walked into the building, there was a Kia Gear Up signage and a lounge that had chairs, sofas, energy drinks, coffee stations and snacks for us. But before we could start driving different vehicles, the Kia team brought all of us into a classroom. To them, our safety is their #1 priority. So, the Kia team had a number of professional drivers and instructors informing us the layout of the Castelloli circuit, what angle or tight turn to be alert for. Also, they told us what happened if something really happen on the track, so we are not clueless or panic but being informed the safety procedures. They also showcased the type of safety features equipped on each Kia vehicles so we know the engineering and the design involved to protect every passenger. The instructor also introduced the executives who were in attendance who had assisted us and planned this entire Kia Gear Up campaign.

Kia Gear Up In-Class Training

By this time, we had signed our life away, which was our waiver form, indicating that we should put safety as priority and that we should be responsible of our behaviour on the race track. Now, all the administrative work were completed, it was time for us to step outside to the parking lot and check out some live demos on the features in some of the Kia vehicles. Some basic drills on how to change a flat tire, check for oil or windshield fluid as well as where all the tools were located in the Kia vehicles. To the Kia team, it does not matter what brand of vehicles we actually drive, we should all know the basic drills of maintaining and learned more about the structure of a vehicle.

Kia Gear Up: Packing for my luggage for the Trip – (MoVernie Travel & Tourism)

Since my plane ride to Barcelona, Spain was an evening flight, I had to pack my luggage the night before. So, I checked the weather and thankfully, the week ahead in Barcelona was sunny all the way. Most importantly, the temperature in early May was reasonably warm but not super super hot, which I am cool with.

I packed lots of tees, shorts, a light jacket, my shampoo and conditioner, AXE products and most importantly, I brought along a Jose Calderon Raptors jersey. I know Jose Calderon lives in Spain and for some reason, my inner voice told me to bring it along, so I did! You got to listen to your inner voice!

The Kia Gear-up Campaign is a 4-day-3-night trip to Barcelona, Spain. Since that weekend was a Victoria Long Weekend, I had requested to stay a few days longer so that I can sightsee and really know more about this country. I felt that if I don’t get a chance to walk around and really get to know this city, I don’t think I would learn about what this country has to offer. So, Kia Motors was very understanding, they had extended and re-scheduled my flight. Although, I had to find my own hotel accommodations for those extra nights, I was very gladly doing that and appreciate Kia Motors for accommodating my request with no issues what-so-ever.

And let me clarify that Kia Motors would have gladly paid for my extra stay if the hotel rates were reasonable. But since they had nicely placed us in a 5-star hotel during the Kia Gear Up campaign, an extra night at the 5-star Grand Central hotel would have cost them an extra of $1000 CDN, which to them and even to me, made no sense and can’t be justified of my extra stay in that hotel. Thus, I told them, I am grateful of their kind re-schedule of my flight so I totally don’t mind finding my own hotel for the two extra nights. I had to clarify this point because I don’t want you guys to think Kia was being cheap or anything. Even I wouldn’t think a hotel would cost $1000/night, so even I wouldn’t pay for myself at such a high rate. So, I booked my two extra nights at Hotel Curious. Judging from its name, I was super CURIOUS! No pun intended. LOL

After I had packed up my belongings, I had decided to roll into my bed for a very good night sleep. Mind you, I had decided to go to work that day, working really hard and ensure that my colleagues know exactly what projects I was working on and where I left off. To me, I love my colleagues, I love my work and I love my job. It’s all about being responsible and work hard and party hard, that’s always part of my motto and I talk the talk, walk the walk.

THANK YOU KIA CANADA & KIA MOTORS! – Something to be thankful for! (MoVernie Travel & Tourism)

THANK YOU Kia Canada & Kia Motors

THANK YOU Kia Canada & Kia Motors

Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) was over this past September! Thanksgiving long weekend just pasted last week. I am a person who is always grateful and thankful of what I have. But after Thanksgiving was over, I decided to sit down and reflect on all the great memories that I had experienced so far. There was one thing that I had done this year that I am super thankful for and there is no doubt it was my Kia Gear Up experience back in May of this year.

A few months ago, many of you had already read my short brief MoVernie BLOGs on my Kia Gear Up journey. Ever since I returned from that trip, I had never thought that my MoVernie brand would be that busy and jam packed. MoVernie was ALWAYS on the MOVE to the point that I couldn’t sit down and reflect and boom, I was off to another event. I didn’t want to rush my thoughts or my experiences during this Kia Gear Up trip as I really want to sit down, relax and flashback all the great memories and experiences and share with you guys. Finally! I got some quiet time during this October to share my experiences with you.

FYI – Ever since I got back from that trip, all the memories were stored in my brain, but I locked the images and experiences in my memory because I didn’t have time to sit down and reflect and relish those precious moments. In the next few weeks, you will get to read my detailed MoVernie BLOGs on my Kia Gear Up journey in detail as I slowly unwind and unlock all of the amazing images and experiences during my Kia Gear Up Trip in Barcelona, Spain.

Let the Kia Gear Up journey begins!

Let me tell you a little background about the Kia Gear Up Campaign. Kia Gear Up was a global initiative organized by the Kia Motors Headquarter from Seoul, Korea. The HQ connected all of its Kia divisions from around the world, including Kia Canada, to participate and to bring a chosen Global Ambassador to represent each of their respective countries to this special project called “Kia Gear Up”. The objective of this campaign was to choose a group of young generation of people to fight over their fears, to encourage them to think outside-of-their-boxes, to be free and be confident about themselves and create their own paths in life. So…exactly, how do they achieve this? They had decided to modify their Kia vehicles into rally racing vehicles on a real race track, allowing the groups of young people to push their limits (under supervision of professional race car drivers) and discover more about themselves through this unbelievable precious opportunity of travelling to a beautiful city called Barcelona.

A few weeks before the trip, Kia Canada contacted me and had told me that out of hundreds of candidates that they had carefully reviewed, that they had chosen me as the ONLY person to represent Kia Canada to participate in this Kia Gear Up campaign. The moment after I heard of this great news, I was frozen; I was asking myself if this was “REAL”. After 5 minutes, I was full of joy and felt super stoked. They told me that they will be flying me to Barcelona, Spain to join other lucky Global Ambassadors from around the world to this Kia Gear Up Event. During those few weeks before the trip, I had to be prepared, not just packing luggage, but also to re-new my Canadian passport, apply for an International driver’s license (so I can drive on the racetrack in Barcelona). Kia Motors HQ also called me from oversea to interview me and asked me more questions, wanting to know more about me before the trip.

I got to say, Barcelona, Spain was always a place that I wanted to travel and visit. And to have Kia Motors fulfilling my bucket list was extra special. I am super thankful and grateful of this trip and thank you Kia Canada and Kia Motors for giving me this wonderful once-in-a-lifetime experience that I will never forget!

Stay tuned for my Kia Gear Up Journey!

You know, I have a lot of great friends who always suggest me to use Flickr. They said it’s a great site for people to showcase their professional photography and it’s just another great social media community to get to see all the beautiful pictures online.

I often hesitate as I ain’t any professional photographer of any sort, nor am I have the time to maintain so many social media sites. But for some reason, this week, I decided to watch Flickr demo video on its site and I have decided to open an account.

Flickr is so cool! It allows you to share some of the great moments of your life to the social media world. You can also make new friends and also join new groups that share your common interests. For example, I uploaded photos that was taken at the SmashFest with NHL players. So, I added those photos to the respective groups. For example, I added Leafs Phil Kessel in the Toronto Maple Leafs group. I felt a sense of togetherness & a sense of contributing to the communities with photos that we can all appreciate.
