MoVernie is on the MOVE again! This time, he and his crew got invited to attend the grand opening of a vintage boutique called the “Treasure Chest” located inside the Windsor Arms Hotel. As we know, Windsor Arms Hotel is famous for its TIFF InStyle Celebrity party. It is also famous for its afternoon high tea, the nice restaurant called “The Living Room” that has a nice outdoor yard to enjoy a glass of wine during warm summer days. To add to this solid Windsor Arms community, located at the corner of the lobby is where the new Treasure Chest Boutique is located.

The Founder is a young entrepreneur named Samantha Michelle, who is the young heiress to the Windsor Arms Hotel as well. She is a multi-talented young lady who is an owner of this boutique store but also a talented DJ (I heard her spin her remixes outside the courtyard at Windsor’s Arm at one event and she definitely got talent). Samantha added her sense of personal style of vintage clothing from London, UK. Many of her treasures include beautiful winter jackets, dresses, sunglasses, jewellery, scarves, accessories and even ties and pins for men. Every piece of article were carefully chosen by Samantha when she was in London, UK and she carried them overseas by carrying over-sized luggage, all on her own. Everything that she does are very hands on.

The evening was filled with very stylish and fashionable peeps and the demographic covered all bases, from young to mid-age and elderly peeps. I think that’s the whole objective about this boutique, it wants every type of peeps to be able to find items that will fit their styles and images. Every item was unique and peeps can mix and match, creating a special fashion style to every individual.

Personally, I really like the boutique name. “Treasure Chest” has special pieces in them and it allows us to discover and explore them. As I explored around the boutique, there was one type of clothing that you will never find in this place, “no pants“. Samantha explained that pants are complicated and she prefers to stay out of it, which I agreed totally, pants are a different breed, they are in their own world.

Lots of awesome food were served during this special evening. Pink champagne and white wine were served as well. One thing you will notice about this boutique the moment you walked into this place, there were tables and sofas located at the centre of the room. Then, there was another sofa located at one side of the wall. I have not seen many boutique stores that have that many furniture for you to sit and relax. I really enjoyed the atmosphere of this boutique, I felt like home. It’s warm, cozy and just very inviting. I could see myself having a nice afternoon high tea right inside this boutique. LOL

My “MoVernie MUST VISIT” spot in this boutique? You got to check out the ridiculous large change room at the back side of the boutique. Inside, you felt like a private room more than a change room. You could possibly have a girls night out, changing clothes with a few friends (if you don’t mind that) and just having a good time in there, mixing and matching outfits, while sipping a few glasses of champagne.  Amazing velvet purple sofas along with beautiful mirror did the trick in this room. I felt like a VIP, it’s like a private bottle service booth more than anything. I can even imagine myself singing karaoke in there. For any high-profile celebrity, I think that maybe a good comfort spot to mix and match clothing and accessories before heading out to a gala.

The evening ended on a very touching note when Samantha made a speech to everyone that came out to support her new boutique. She was very gracious for the opportunity and she toasted to everyone. The speech was genuine and really came out of the bottom of her heart, that’s always the best about non-scripted speeches.

Until next time, MoVernie is outta here! Peace!

Smashfest 2014 – Ping-Pong Tournament With NHL Players & Celebrities (Charity Event)

Yesterday evening, me and my crew attended and covered one of the hottest events of the summer called Smashfest. This was the third year Smashfest had been running and it will continue to get bigger and better every year. Smashfest is an exclusive party that brings together NHL stars and other celebrities for a ping-pong themed night in downtown Toronto, being held at Steam Whistle Brewery’s historic Roundhouse.

Guests who paid for the tickets got to mix and mingle with a number of past and present NHL players. Foods, wine and SteamWhistle beer were provided throughout the night. Some selected lucky guests also got to play in a ping-pong tournament with the NHL players, playing to win the Smashfest Trophy. Defending champion, Minnesota Wild Stephane Veilleux defended his title again against Vancouver Canucks Alex Burrows. Smashfest was hosted and organized by New York Rangers, Dominic Moore who wanted to raise awarenss and funding to support two very important causes: concussion, as well as rare cancer research.

Easter Seals – 63rd Annual Rogers Conn Smythe Sports Celebrity Dinner

The 63rd Annual Rogers Conn Smythe Sports Celebrity Dinner and Auction took place on Thursday, February 27th, 2014 at the Toronto’s famous Royal York Hotel. They had a list of solid 2014 Celebrity Guests who gave their valuable time and gave back to the communities in support of this special charitable event. In fact, some of these celebrities such as all-time Blue Jays great, Carlos Delgado, specifically flew in Toronto so he could be part of this special occasion. The list of celebrity guests include Carlos Delgado (Baseball Player), Geraldine Heaney (Hockey Player), James Hinchcliffe (Indy Car Race Car Driver), Perdita Felicien (Hurdler), Dave Stewart (Baseball Player), Scott Milanovich (CFL Coach), Gary Roberts (Hockey Player), Matt Hughes (Martial Artist), Stefan Charles (NFL Player), and Natalie Spooner (Female Gold Olympian). This year’s dinner host was Gerry Dee!

Special thanks to the Easter Seals Committee for the invitation and our crew and I attended the media conference where I got to interview some of these celebrities as well as the Easter Seals Ambassadors about being part of this great charitable organizations and the meaning of giving back and in support of the youth and young adults in Ontario with a physical disability.

Stay tuned for my later publications on the interviews I had with some of these celebrities!

Here are the photos we took at the Media Conference and photos of my interviews with these celebrities:

Kardinal Offishall’s “Free the City” Party in Support of Free The Children Charity

Kardinal Offishall is a talented artist but he is also a passionate person who has a BIG heart. He is always active around the city, always being supportive and attend numerous events. In particular, he wants to give back to the communities, he wants to make a difference around the world.

Although December is relatively a quiet month for special events but there is always one event that everyone looks forward to and it’s Kardinal Offishall’s annual Christmas Birthday Bash. Kardinal always celebrate his birthday by turning it’s bash into a meaningful charitable event.

This year’s event was no different, “Free the City” was the theme for Kardinal’s 15th annual party. It was held at Muzik Nightclub with Nelly Furtado as a co-host in support of the Free the Children charity. Last year, Kardinal travelled to Kenya to visit the Free the Children projects. Kardinal was touched by the amount of great work done by the Free the Children organization and was greatly inspired by his travels there. So, Kardinal’s had decided to dedicate his 15th annual Birthday Bash to raise funds to send 10 inner city youth from Canada to volunteer and help the Free the Children communities in Summer 2014.

Tickets were sold to the public to raise the funds. Silent auction was also setup at the birthday bash to raise money. Most importantly, a Live auction, conducted by Kardinal himself on the stage raised a substantial amount of funds as the winning bidder get to have an exclusive dinner with Kardinal, Nelly Furtado and Marc Kieburger, co-founder of the Free the Children charity.

A lot of celebrities and artists came out in the freezing weather to bring their warm hearts, showing their support to Kardinal’s passion for charity. In attendance, I saw Nelly Furtado, Maestro Fresh Wes, Karl Wolf, Shawn Desman, Stacey McKenzie, Lyriq Bent,  Trish, Zolo, S. Davis, Patricia Jaggernauth, Chris Strikes,  the Toronto Argo cheerleaders and many many more.

It was definitely a great night for a good cause! Kardinal is always entertaining and always make the event so fun!

Hello Canada Party – TIFF13 Flashback

Now that TIFF 13 has come to a close, I had a great time, meeting industry people and interesting people who works in the industry. It was great for me to cover TIFF exclusive VIP parties and events, as well attending various film screening and being able to talk to directors and actors about their TIFF experiences and their films.

One particular event that I got invited into was the well-known magazine called “Hello Canada”. As I went in there, I bumped into many familiar faces. Kardinal Offishall, as he was about to leave the party to go to the next one, I wanted to take a photo with him. His PR told him to get going. Kardy said “No! No! I got to chat and take photo with this guy, he is dope!” I thank Kardy for that. In fact, we bumped into each other for 3 straight evenings in a roll. He teased me and said “Man, we are seeing each other so often!” I replied, “well, that’s because we both know where the great parties at!” We both laughed out loud.

I also saw many Degrassi actors, in particular, Luke Bilyk, whom I interviewed him at last year’s American Next Top Model Convention. I also bumped into the boyband, Neverest, which I interviewed before, they opened for the Backstreet Boys in their previous tour.

I saw Olympians Patrick Chan and Tessa Virtue. I also bump into Russell Peters, he was the most popular one there and he made funny facial expressions in everyone’s photos. He was busy chatting but the moment I walked up to him and complimented his pink blazer, he stopped his chat and started chatting with me and complimented my orange bowtie and blazer as well.

Most importantly, I met this amazing young director named Thomas E. Oliver, who had a TIFF screening the next night, his film is called “1982”, starring Hill Harper, LaLa Anthony (Knicks Player, Carmelo Anthony’s wife) and other actors.  Thomas and I chatted a bit and we talked about TIFF and everything in life. And he invited me to his screening. Trust me, it was a screening to remember. I will tell you more later on my experience at his film 1982 at a later blog. Stay tuned!

All-in-all, it was a great night! Open bar, free food, great backdrop! It’s all fun and games and good time with the celebrities and athletes.

TIFF on Pinterest

The power of social media. For a few years now, TIFF has been using Pinterest to showcase the list of Celebrities and Guests who will be attending its Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). It actually is quite an effective way to see the pictures of the stars and their bios. I very much love the concept.

Check out the list of strong famous people who will be attending TIFF 2013: I want to see Joseph Levitt & Olivia Wilde in particular. What’s your picks?
